Archives are beginning to reopen as restrictions are lifted in England, Scotland and Wales. Unfortunately there are still restrictions in place and this makes it difficult to undertake archival research at the present time.
Understandably the archive offices have to limit the numbers that can be accomodated in order to comply with social distancing rules and ensure satfety of both staff and visitors. In addition table space, seating and equipment has to be deep cleaned on a regular basis. Access to certain documents is also restricted, documents need to be pre-ordered in advance and self service items such as microfilms and fiche, books, transcripts and card indexes are not always available. This means that the time spent in archives is less than normal.
Because of the restrictions, presently we are still not able to offer a full research service. This could delay completion of current Client projects which is frustrating and an incovenient for Clients. We will endeavour to do what we can as soon as we can and keep you informed as things progress.
